Me Quitte
In May 2016 Niels Rønsholdt’s song cycle Me Quitte was released on CD, with SCENATET, the composer himself, and the singer Anna Katrin Øssursdóttir Egilstrøð.
The online music journal Seismograf writes about the recording: “The instruments superbly played by musicians of SCENATET accompanies the lament of the voices, and with this accompaniment, the composer dives deep into the pool of gloomy klichés: triad triplets in minor from the piano, pendulating chords from the guitar, melancholic vibrato melodies from the strings.”
The Danish Newspaper Information writes:
Me Quitte is the bearer of a rare beauty. “With the gibberish of inversion it speaks directly to the soul. Sends small grey arrows into the heart. Into solar plexus. It pierces our conception, and it leaves us both cleansed and confused.”
The German music blog nordische-musik.de also listened to Rønsholdt’s song cycle and in a five star review they write: “SCENATET interprets Rønsholdt’s composition in a superb and evocative way with a shimmering play between tradition and innovation.”
“The songs are described as lovesongs from hell but don’t let that scare you off. Me Quitte is everything but difficult avant-garde art. Quite the opposite it is emotional, fragile, moving, dreamy and yes – even charming.”
