SCENATET creates an original reinterpretation of the classic portrait concert with the innovative concept ‘Documentary Concert’. The idea is invented and developed by the filmmaker Michael Madsen (‘Into Eternity’, 2009) and artist Anna Berit Asp Christensen. The documentary concert merges three different types of expression according to portrait: silent film, the musical work, and the object exhibited.
In Documentary Concert #1 the starting point is a silent film depiction of composer Bent Sørensen’s daily life between the coffee machine, the piano and the computer! SCENATET is accompanying these everyday situations with a live performance of Sørensen’s masterpieces of chamber works. The result is a crackling contrasting clash between picture and sound, reality and abstraction, the composers homely idyll and modernist science fiction.
"SCENATET have ... invented a new type of concert, replacing the traditional portrait concert. Instead of putting together a concert program of works ... they design a soundtrack that illustrates a silent film portraiture. And this form was entertaining all the way through, at the premiere this tuesday." ”
